At this pivotal moment in the life of the church and the world, it's an appropriate time to echo the prophet’s query: “What does the Lord require of you?” from Micah 6:8. “He has shown you, oh human, what is good and what the Lord requires of you. But to do justice, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
ABHMS in this Palmer Grant Cycle is seeking projects that call people to engage with the Scripture passage from Micah 6:8 by responding to the question: “What does the Lord require of you?”
We are seeking proposals that engage with one of the following selected domestic issues:
1. Immigration, Migration and Displacement
2. Engaging the Public Square
3. Family Health and Wellness
4. Justice for God’s Planet and People/Eco-Environmental Justice
The proposed project should include the three aspects of the Micah 6:8 verse: loving mercy, doing justice, and walking humbly with God:
Loving Mercy: How does your proposed project demonstrate the command to love mercy? For example, how does it look to love mercy with respect to immigrants/migrants/asylum seekers, the environment, or those marginalized in society because of their gender, race, or beliefs? Acts of mercy and kindness should not be a one-time action, but should be sustained through six or more months and become part of the church or organization’s culture.
Doing Justice: How does your proposed project demonstrate your commitment to doing justice? For example, what justice action(s) will you take/ have you taken on behalf of and with your neighbor? Acts of justice should be informed by interaction with the community you have identified in your selected issue. Acts of justice should empower the community you are working with and should include them as co-partners. Doing justice should not be a one-time event, but one that becomes part of the organization’s DNA. This will take intentionality in learning, networking, communication and planning to act together in solidarity. Your proposal should show how you will incorporate these steps into doing justice.
